Heading Home (after a year and a half)

Last time I went home was Christmas, 2002. It seems like a really long time ago because, well, it sort of was. For me. And yet at the same time I feel like I’ve got so much going on here in Shanghai that I’m not ready to go back home yet. But I am.

I’m headed home again today in a few more hours. Not sure if I’ll have much time to write during the two weeks that I’m home or what I’d write about if I did.

My good friend Dan is getting married. My family is looking forward to seeing its most inaccessible member. And lots of food awaits eating.

  1. Have a good trip to and stay in the States (or, as I like to call it, the Land of Taco Bell and Dr. Pepper). Thanks again for letting Kexia and I stay at your place this last weekend.

  2. the countdown is on, baby!

  3. Bad news: the high school band & the dancing girls (pep club) won’t be able to make it. Airport security or something like that. We’ll still be there to meet you tho! 😀

  4. Idea: start timing yourself to see how long it takes, from arrival, for you to start missing China. I have theories about this.

    Have a good trip!

  5. OK, so I made it back!

Brendan — OK, I’ll try that. (I’m not going to use my stopwatch or anything that exact, though, because it’s going to be more than a matter of hours.) Oh, and people don’t count, right? 🙂

  6. Can you bring me back a #4 from Taco Bell please? Make the gorditas beef supreme and i want a soft shell taco, not a hard shell. DP as the drink, unless they are a funky Taco Bell and have Dr. Slice, then I want that. I don’t care if it is cold and a day or so old. I will pay you 400 rmb. Also some egg nog would be nice. And a French Silk pie.

  7. Yeah – I just find that I start missing China – yes, China in general, not specific people – after around a week, whereas after returning to China, it usually takes me a couple of months to start missing the States.

    John,

Which airline are you flying on?

UPS won’t ship you in a box, but if you flew on one of our jets we could get you there overnight.
    HA, ha,

    Greg
