MandarinTap Looks Interesting
Jut discovered MandarinTap. I haven’t bought it yet (it’s $2.99), but it’s available for iOS and Android. Anyone out there tried it?

Seems to me like a simple and effective app for teaching grammar. Unfortunately they seem to be only targeting beginners, which is a trend I’m noticing in most Mandarin learning apps. This would be great with grammar lessons from the wiki.
BTW it seems your Facebook, Twitter and mail buttons on the top left don’t work in Chrome.
Hi, I built and use MandarinTap. This is V1.0, more improvements to come in the future.
I’ve been trying to find a good Mandarin learning app for years without much luck. None of them seemed to really work for me.
I decided to build my own and this is the result. I’m very interested to know what people think. If you have ideas for new features or lesson sets, let me know. I’m very interested to know what you think.

I left a comment here a moment ago but just noticed yours. That’s great that you made this yourself (I’m an iOS dev as well), it is useful and unique. It really needs additional lesson sets, although functionally I found it to get the job done well. I feel that with additional content and a little polish this app has great potential.

Thanks, this is actually my first ever product and first ever attempt at mobile writing a mobile app.
It has been a good learning experience, its not really a serious commercial operation. The motivation is to learn how to build a mobile app and craft a product, plus make it easier to learn 汉字.
I like your blog, the content is interesting.
I wrote an app that was similar to this a few years back. It was Silverlight-based and grabbed expansion sentences from Chinesepod. It’s a good concept. I found my app far more useful for building conversation skills than flashcards were.
The blocker for me was content. It didn’t seem right to copy sentences and translations wholesale off of the CPod website : )
I suppose one day I’ll find a source of Chinese sentences and rewrite my app for mobile. Until then, this app looks decent.
I hadn’t heard of this but purchased it after reading your post, John. The idea for the app is good, but like Carl already said, it’s only of use for beginners unfortunately. The fit and finish of the app is kind of poor as well, the app name is “LearnFastIOS”. Needs a bit of polish.
I’ve just released a new update 1.2 for Android with bugfixes. iOS version should be approved and available by 12th Jan.
I renamed the app at the last moment, as I prefer the name Mandarin tap. Its strange as locally in development it shows as “MandarinTap” but when purchased from the store it still has the old name.. I’ll figure it out 🙂
It’s a work in progress, improvements to come. All feedback is both welcome and helpful to shape direction of the app. (Plus appreciated!)
