Video Games for Lunch
Happy η Year and all that. I took a bit of a break from blogging this month, and I’ve got a bit of a backlog of things to write about… many just tiny observations like this one.
Last week my wife and I went to DeAll Korean restaurant in Hongqiao for the lunch buffet. The restuarant is typically full of Koreans at lunchtime.
We were amused by the “interaction” at this table of kids:
(Hey, what else are you going to do at lunch?)
Haha, they have once a year a break… Let them enjoy it π
Just about the same as it was 20 years ago – the more things change, the more they’re the same. Except my brother and I were tetris’in on Nintendo Game Boy and Sega Gamegear. If we finished a meal early, we’d head to the arcade. Totally zoned out.
A bit higher on the scale was the Turbografx Turboexpress (PC Engine) handheld, complete with a 2.6″ monitor, 400×270 resolution, which was sufficient for my eyes then, certainly not now compared to the 3″ and 230,000 lcd pixels on my canon G9. I recall the fascination with the Turboexpress TV tuner add-on and excitingly catching one channel from the airwaves.

Hey – don’t “quote” the interaction. I’ve seen lots of very cool DS games that are actually quite social when you get enough kids together. The power of bluetooth brings us all together in the end.
Yes this is a very typical scene now in Chinese restaurants here in Dublin. It keeps the kids quiet so the parents can enjoy the food. The DS and PSP are both good options, I know when my wife heads back on the long flight to Beijing she will be bringing 2 DS’s along for my son.
