So I finally got my ADSL access today. I am proper satisfied. It’s very fast, and I can even upgrade to twice this speed for a mere extra 10 rmb per month (I currently have to pay 130).

So now I can get back on top of my e-mail. Still, if you sent me any e-mails these past few months, there’s a good chance they were lost in my hard drive crash, so please e-mail me again. I’m using Thunderbird as my mail client now, instead of Microsoft Outlook. John B tells me it’s better for Asian language support. Hopefully it’ll work out.

Just in case you were looking for something China-related that goes even beyond my own existence here, I got something for ya. So tell me, do you know the difference between a Chinaman and a chink? Go find out.

Related note: Ever hear of the Chink Bros?

  2. Man, that is a great article – it’s going under the WORD section on Racingmix as is the WHY I HATE WEBLOGS piece. Enjoy Shanghai and don’t ignore the photography 😉

  3. the Chinaman v. Chink was a great bit. I guess you didn’t get the email I sent about a week ago? I’ll resend unless I hear from you by tomorrow…

  4. Hey it’s a rip-off of Chris Rock’s “Niggers vs Black People” except not hardly as funny and a lot more ignorant…

  5. john pasden:

have you REALLY been published?? thats SO GREAT!! congratualtions. who is your publisher, tell me all about it.

i emailed you but i fear it was lost with the others.

anyhow, goos luck in the new pad. ill be in shanghai on monday, courtesy of the frigging shaoxing psb granting me a TWO WEEK visa to travel (instead of the mandatory 3 months) and wasting my last free passport page in the process. oh, a fun day at the u.s. embassy for me.

maybe i can see your place. im not sure where im going or anything though.

    ok, congrats!

The “Chinaman vs. Chink” article was funny, though as social commentary, it’s seriously lagging. It’s sort of like the movie “American Beauty”–great as a comedy, but is completely stupid when it tries to be “deep.” “American Beauty” tells us nothing about “real” America, and the “Chinaman vs. Chink” article tells us nothing about Asian Americans.

The Chink Bros, however, were disturbing. Minorities in America really need to stop obsessing about race. You never hear John referring to himself as a Polack, so why should Chinese Americans refer to themselves as chinks?Stupid.

  7. The Chinaman is not the issue here. The issue is that someone peed on your fucking rug.

  8. Ray, John was ALWAYS pulling the Polish card here at ZUCC, got very tiring. Heh.

Shoot, you need permission from the PSB to leave town? Why? Are you not an American citizen, I thought those silly laws didn’t apply to us.

  9. hey carl,

i need persmission from the psb to leave the country. not permission, but a little thing called “re entry visa.”

our psb has apparently hired a new fat bastard to replace the old fat bastard. only this one is surly and jealous of foreigners. he has taken great strides to prove his manliness through his “discretion to approve visas” because his manliness is lacking in other areas.
his black volkswagon santana must only be a 1991 or something.

so much for the spirit of new year.

    hope you guys are well,
    shoot

  10. HAHAHA!! wayne, you ROCK!
(and it really DID tie the room together…)

  11. when did yo get publishied?

  12. when did yo get publishied?

  13. Ray:

Don’t judge a book by its cover. Of all people, I thought you’d be the last to do so – peep the CHINK BROS once again and give em a few minutes before you lash out. Peace out.

  14. Erin and Alf,

I was notified last week that my “sample” (I only sent 10 pages) has officially been approved for publication at Beijing’s Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. Now I have to send them my entire manuscript and start the long “dialogue with the editor” about what needs to be changed, supplemented, etc. Sounds liek a headache. It’ll be great to be published, though! 🙂

    Wilson,

Yeah, you’re right. I just glanced at the name, then made a quick judgement.
